Activity #1: Popsicle Stick Puppets
I went here and printed a bunch of Toy Story coloring pages. First, the kids colored them with crayons. As they finished, I cut them out and glued them with Elmer's glue onto nice, fat popsicle sticks. It took quite a while for them to dry, so we moved on to another activity while they dried. When they were all ready, we had some good puppet shows!
You had me at "no-mess." Seriously, I love paint, but the threat of paint on the walls, floor and furniture always makes me a little nervous during our various paint activities. So, this sounded awesome.
They enjoyed it. Simple, no mess. Also good for practicing number and letter writing.
Activity # 3: Alphabet Scavenger Hunt
Pin (this one for a backyard version)
This activity was designed to be play outside, but I did a very scaled-back version inside. I would announce a letter, we would make the sound the letter made, and then they would try to find something in their rooms that started with that letter and put it on the sofa. Someday I want to do this with a giant letter chart as suggested, but this worked well as a rainy-day activity.
Activity # 4: Play Do Stamping
The teacher on this blog has tons of great ideas for working with letters. One was using alphabet stamps on play do instead of using ink. I LOVED this idea because we only have one stamp pad and it gets everywhere anyway. And have I mentioned that I have once child with an aversion to mess? Wonder where he got that.
Anyway, the kids had fun stamping letters and trying to make words. Great activity.
Activity # 5: Play in the Rain
Because even if it rains 12 inches in 24 hours, sometimes you just have to get outside and play!
