There are so many games kids can play to develop fine motor skills. I saw this one and I needed a quick activity in between a couple of crafts, so we went with this one that I came across (original here-she also has lots of other ideas!).
All you need are some Cheerios or froot loops (something a bit wider would be easier to work with), a skewer (trim the sharp point off), and a ball of playdo. Use the play do as a base for the skewer, and let your kids threadCheerios onto the skewer. Easy and fun! And, of course they get to eat the broken Cheerios.
You could combine this with a counting activity (adding and taking away), or even do colors with colored cereal. My kids enjoyed threading them, though some of the Cheerios proved too narrow for the skewers. I might try a bigger cereal or thinner skewers next time! They also threaded some of the straws left over from our straw mosaics.
